Source: NCAA Estimated Probability of Competing in College Athletics, 2024-25 data (updated March 2026). Reflects high school team participation only — club-only athletes aren't counted, so true odds vary by sport.
This is NCAA only. Roughly 83,000 more student-athletes compete in the NAIA and 70,000 more in the NJCAA each year — both real pathways to college sports — though neither publishes a per-sport breakdown the way the NCAA does. College club programs add even more opportunity but aren't tracked by any single governing body, so no reliable number exists for them.

Questions About Basketball on Sightline

How detailed are the basketball stats on a Sightline profile?

Points, rebounds, assists, steals, and shooting percentage are all tracked separately, giving a fuller picture than a scoring average alone. A coach can see whether a player's production is efficient, not just high-volume.

Can I search specifically for point guards or centers?

That's exactly how coaches use the platform. Position, class year, and region are all filterable, so a coach recruiting for one specific opening isn't scrolling through an entire state's worth of prospects to find it.

Do families have to pay to use Sightline for basketball?

The core platform is free, build a profile, log stats, show up in coach searches. Premium is optional and adds features like seeing which coaches have viewed the profile and messaging them back directly.

Why should a basketball highlight reel not be the whole story?

A highlight reel is, by definition, the best five plays out of a whole season. Verified stats show what happened across every game, which is a much better predictor of how a player will actually perform in a college program.
