As a sports family, we had a lot of misconceptions about what the road to college recruiting would actually look like. Like a lot of families, we fell into the trap of high-dollar, high-promise recruiting services. By the time it was over, what actually got our oldest son recruited heading into his senior year wasn't a paid package — it was good connections, a great travel team, and an even better head coach. A little social media and a lot of hard work opened the doors. Thousands of dollars never could have.
It Was Never Just About Talent.
The real problem was accurate information and direct communication — and no amount of money could buy that. Stat spreadsheets, emails, DMs, tracking tournament schedules, getting film out as fast as possible, all while actually trying to enjoy watching our kid play. It was a lot to keep up with.
